Every year Otley has a Victorian Fayre, usually at the end of November/beginning of December. From quite modest beginnings its become a well attended and popular event. Aside from the stalls and ‘Victorian’ theme there has been for the last couple of years a procession featuring these locally made and quite wonderful paper ‘puppets’. Of course there is always the Punch and Judy stall in the market that remains my favourite attraction.

There is something both scary and very funny about Punch and Judy shows. I saw my first on on holiday on the south coast of the UK when I was four, and it has stuck with me ever since. I remember being scared of Mr Punches voice, but totally unable to run away because I wanted to see what happened next. I’ve since photographed them whenever I come across them, and to be honest, they still slightly scare me.
